General Questions
A sobriety coach is a professional who provides personalized support, guidance, and accountability for individuals seeking to achieve and maintain sobriety from alcohol or substances. Unlike therapists who may focus on past trauma or mental health conditions, sobriety coaches focus primarily on practical strategies for maintaining recovery and building a fulfilling sober life.
While therapy typically focuses on healing past trauma and addressing mental health conditions, sobriety coaching is present and future-focused, providing practical guidance, accountability, and support for maintaining sobriety. Coaches often work alongside therapists as part of a comprehensive recovery approach.
No. I work with clients at various stages of recovery, including those who have completed treatment programs, those currently in outpatient treatment, and those who are seeking support without formal treatment. During our consultation, we'll discuss your specific situation to ensure I can provide appropriate support.
This varies greatly depending on individual needs and goals. Some clients work with me for 3-6 months during a specific transition or challenging period, while others maintain ongoing support for a year or longer to ensure lasting recovery. We regularly assess progress and adjust our approach as needed.
Services & Sessions
Sessions are personalized to your needs but typically include reviewing progress and challenges, developing practical strategies for specific situations, building recovery skills, and setting actionable goals. We may also address life skills, relationships, career goals, and other areas that support your overall wellbeing in recovery.
I offer both in-person sessions (for local clients) and virtual sessions via secure video conferencing. Virtual coaching provides the same level of support and allows me to work with clients regardless of location. During our consultation, we can discuss which option works best for you.
Life happens. I honor that. That said, here's how we keep things clear and respectful: • Sessions must be canceled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours' notice. • Cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice will be charged in full. • Monthly and prepaid packages are non-refundable, but can be paused or rescheduled within 90 days of purchase with written notice. • In the rare case that I need to cancel due to emergency or unforeseen circumstances, the session will be rescheduled or credited to your account. These policies protect your time and mine—and allow me to offer consistent, high-quality support to all clients.
Yes, I offer family support services to help loved ones understand addiction, develop healthy boundaries, improve communication, and create a supportive environment for recovery. This can be provided separately or as part of a comprehensive plan with the person in recovery.
Payment & Insurance
I don't currently work directly with insurance companies. However, I can provide documentation that you may submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement as an out-of-network provider. Some clients have success using HSA/FSA funds for coaching services.
I accept all major credit cards, HSA/FSA cards, PayPal, and Venmo. Payment is typically collected at the beginning of each week or month, depending on your plan and preference.
I offer a 10% discount for quarterly prepayment and have a limited number of sliding scale spots available for those with financial hardship. Please inquire during your consultation if cost is a concern, and we can discuss options.
Coaching Approach
I view relapse as a potential part of the recovery process rather than a failure. If relapse occurs, we address it compassionately, identify triggers and contributing factors, adjust strategies accordingly, and use it as a learning opportunity to strengthen your recovery. My focus is always on moving forward rather than dwelling on setbacks.
I'm familiar with and supportive of various recovery approaches, including 12-step programs, SMART Recovery, Refuge Recovery, and harm reduction. I believe there are many paths to recovery, and we'll work together to find the approach or combination that works best for you.
Absolutely. Your privacy is paramount. I maintain strict confidentiality regarding all aspects of our work together, with standard legal exceptions for situations involving imminent danger to yourself or others, suspected abuse of vulnerable populations, or legal mandates.
Progress is measured through both objective metrics (days of sobriety, frequency of cravings, etc.) and more subjective quality-of-life improvements (better relationships, improved mood, career advancement, etc.). We'll establish clear benchmarks at the beginning of our work together and regularly assess progress toward your specific goals.
